The Department of Astronomy is an academic unit of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics (FCFM) of the University of Concepción (UdeC).

It started out in 1994 as the Astronomy Group inside the Physics department and became independent in 2008. It has its own undergraduate and graduate programmes and in 2015 we obtained our own astronomy building.
