Dr. Grzegorz PietrzynskiDr. Grzegorz Pietrzynski is dedicated to the study of stellar populations in the local Universe, the extragalactic distance scale and the study of brown dwarfs and planetary systems. He did his Masters in 1995 and his Ph.D. in 1999 at the University of Warsaw, Poland. Currently he is a full professor at that university. He is a member of the IAU, and is now participating actively in the development of scientific initiatives such as the Araucaria Project and OGLE. Key goals of these projects include: distance scale, gravitational microlensing, variable stars, extrasolar planets and VVV. He joined the Department of Astronomy in 2000.
