Dr. Hong li Liu
Dr Hongli Liu received his PhD. from National Astronomical Observatories, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, 2017.
Hongli Liu comes from Hong Kong, China and is a postdoc working with Prof. Amelia Stutz. He joined the Astronomy department in March 2017. Now, he is mainly working on magnetic fields of interstellar medium, from molecular clouds to protostellar cores by means of observations with advanced telescopes such as ALMA, SMA, APEX, etc.
His work is dedicated to addressing the following questions:
- How does the magnetic field configuration vary with spatial scales?
- What is the role of magnetic fields during the fragmentation of molecular clouds, and formation of dense clumps, dense cores, and protostars?
- Is there any observational evidence for solving the "magnetic braking catastrophe” problem?
Research expertise & interests:
- Multi-wavelength study of triggered star formation around HII regions
- What is the role of magnetic fields during the fragmentation of molecular clouds, and formation of dense clumps, dense cores, and protostars?
- Initial conditions of high-mass star formation (i.e., chemistry and physics)
