Dra. Mary LoliDr. Mary Loli Martínez is originally from Mexico, and belongs to a Nahua community in the state of Puebla,. She completed a bachelor's degree in Physics (2006), a master's degree in Astronomy (2011) and a Doctorate in Astrophysics with Honorable Mention (2015) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). She won the Alfonso Caso medal (2015) awarded by UNAM for being the best student of her generation in the Astrophysics program, in addition to the Paris Pishmish Prize awarded by the Instituto de Astronomía (UNAM). She has carried out postdoctoral stays in Spain (Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía, IAA), Poland (Center for Theoretical Physics, CFT) and Chile (Universidad de Chile, Universidad de Valparaíso, Núcleo Milenio TITANs). Since August 2023, she is a professor at the Departamento de Astornomía at the Universidad de Concepción. Her research focuses on the observational analysis of Active Galaxy Nuclei (AGN) and the use of these to constrain cosmological parameters. She has an extensive experience in data reduction, in the analysis of photometric and spectroscopic data in the UV, optical and NIR using various telescopes such as the Gran Telescopio de Canarias, the Very Large Telescope (VLT), the Magallanes Telescope, and the SOAR telescope. She is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V within the Black Hole Mapper project, in addition to being members of the COINS committee focused on promoting equity in collaboration. She has taught classes at the bachelor's and master's levels. Her first master's student obtained a master's degree in 2021 with Honorable Mention and was a candidate for the Medalla Alfonso Caso. Also, has extensive experience in educational and dissemination activities in Astronomy with a multicultural, inclusive and equitable approach. In 2015 she received support from the program " Apoyos Complementarios a Mujeres Indígenas Becarias CONACYT 2015 " (CONACyT–CDI), with which she developed educational activities in Astronomy and other sciences that led to the formation of the "Metztli" Astronomical Club of the Bachillerato Alfonso Reyes in San Gabriel Chilac, Puebla. Currently continues to collaborate with the club remotely and in person.
